THE NEW PAPER, 16 FEB 2006: A PREGNANT woman was murdered in her flat at Holland Close early this morning. Her 50-year-old husmand has been arrested, said police spokesman ASP Siow Cheng Cheng.

the husband, a Singaporean, is believed to have called the police about the murder at around 1.45am.

the woman was found lying face up on the bed in the master bedroom of the couple's three-room flat, with a stab wound on her chest.

A rusty sword with a 46-cm blade was found on the floor beside the bed, said ASP Siow.

The victim, 39, clad in pyjamas, was pronounced dead at 2am.

She was believed to be from China, but had become a Singapoer citizen.

The police have not named her.

The couple have two daughters in their early teens, who were understood to be in the flat, which is on the 21st story, when the murder happened.

Through the unit's corridor window this morning, the New paper saw many Taosit and Buddhist artefacts on an altar and in a cabinet in the living room.

there was also a statue of a Hindu god and a short sword with a Taoist yin-yang symbol on its handle near the sofa.

Neightbours said they were unfamiliar with the family, who kept mostly to themselves.

Woman found dead in flat, husband arrested

A 39-year-old Chinese woman was found dead in her flat at Block 4, Holland Close early Thursday morning.

Police received a call at about 1.45am and when they arrived at the scene, they found the victim covered in blood and had a stab wound to her chest.

She was found lying face up on her bed in the master bedroom.

A 46cm blade was found at the side of the bed.

The woman is believed to be pregnant.

The victim's 50-year-old husband has been arrested. Police have classified the case as murder. - CNA/ir

Man Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds

A 41-year-old Chinese man was found dead with gunshot wounds at his flat this morning.

2On 15 Feb 2006 at about 7.10 am , Police responded to a call that someone had been shot at Blk 223 Serangoon Ave 4. A 41-year-old businessman who resided in the flat, was found bleeding and lying face down on the floor in the study room. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.50am

3Earlier at about 6.55 am , a man had entered the flat armed with a gun. The victim's wife, teenaged daughter and maid were tied up and the house was ransacked. A few shots were heard and the victim was fatally wounded. The victim’s wife, daughter and maid were unhurt. The man then ran out of the door towards an unknown direction.

4Police are currently on the look out for the suspect. He is believed to be Chinese in his late 30s to 40s, and is described as plump built, about 1.7 m tall. He is wearing a black round-neck T-shirt with some wordings, black pants and black shoes. He was also sporting a black cap and appeared to be blind in his right eye. He fled the house carrying a blue-coloured denim handbag which is believed to contain cash and jewellery taken from the house.

5Members of the public who spot anyone fitting the description of the suspect are advised to call the Police immediately. They should not approach the suspect as he may be dangerous.
